테드 크루즈 의원, CPAC 참가 코로나 확진자와 대면 접촉 보고 받아…일주일 자가 격리 결정

 지난 달(2월) 26일 열린 보수정치행동회의 CPAC 참가자 중 한 명이 코로나 19 확진자로 확인된 가운데 테드 크루즈(Ted Cruz) 공화당 연방 상원의원이 행사 당시 해당 확진자와 가벼운 대화와 악수를 나눈 것을 지난 토요일에 안 뒤 일주일 간의 자가격리에 들어갔습니다. 

 어제(8일) 텍사스를 대표하는 공화당 정치인 중 한 명인 크루즈 상원의원이 열흘 전 열린 CPAC에서 최근코로나 19 확진자로 판명 난 환자와 짧은 대화를 나누며 악수 한 사실을 지난 7일 알게 됐다고 밝혔습니다. 

 이에 혹시 모를 감염 가능성을 우려해 휴스턴(Houston) 보건국과 해리스 카운티(Harris County) 보건국 연방질병통제예방센터 CDC 그리고 개인 주치의에게 상담 문의를 받았으며 감염 증상이 발현되기 전엔 진단 검사가 큰 의미가 없고 감염 의심환자와의 짧은 대면은 CDC가 규정한 자가격리 기준에 해당되지 않는다는 조언을 받았다고 밝혔습니다.

 또한 의료 보건 당국들도 CDC 기준을 근거로 CPAC 행사 이후 10일 이내에 크루즈 의원과 접촉한 사람들의 경우도 감염 가능성을 걱정하지 않아도 된다고 말한 것으로 전해졌습니다. 

 그럼에도 크루즈 의원이 많은 지지자들을 만나야 하는 직분과 모든 이들의 마음의 안정을 고려해 CPAC 대면 접촉 이후 14일간의 잠복 기간 격리 조치 준수 차원에서 이번 한 주 동안 외부 활동을 중단하고 집에 머물기로 결정한 것으로 알려졌습니다.
